Getting the right Roblox Player download
The Roblox Player is the client that runs experiences, as opposed to Studio, which builds them. Most people never download it deliberately: the website installs it when you press play. The URL below is the one Roblox’s own manifest declares for the current version.
The Windows installer is a 4.6 MB bootstrapper. That is far too small to be the client, so it downloads the rest on first run, which is why the file size you see does not match what ends up on disk.
Unlike Studio, the Player gets a brand new URL for every single version, with an opaque token in the path. Version 0.726 lives at a different address from 0.702.2, and neither address is guessable.
There is also a Microsoft Store build. It is a separate package from this one, it updates through the Store instead, and the two are not interchangeable.
A "direct link" to the Player is a frozen build
Because each version gets its own address, any link someone hands you points at one specific build forever, not at the current one. Roblox refuses to connect with an out-of-date client, so an old direct link mostly buys you an installer that updates itself immediately, and at worst it is a stale file nobody is patching. We keep the per-version URLs and hashes precisely so you can tell which one you are looking at.
This is the download children are most often tricked over
Roblox is played overwhelmingly by minors, which makes it a standing favourite for fake installers, "free Robux" downloads and account-stealing pages. We are not making an accusation about any particular site here, only a structural point: the real client comes from Roblox’s own domain, costs nothing, and never needs a key, a generator or a survey. Anything that adds one of those has added something Roblox did not.

- Where is the official Roblox Player download?
- From Roblox Corporation at setup.rbxcdn.com, their own content delivery domain. This page lists the exact URL from their published manifest with the SHA-256 for each version we have recorded.
- Why is the Roblox installer only a few megabytes?
- Because it is a bootstrapper. The Windows installer is about 4.6 MB and downloads the actual client when you run it, so the installer size and the installed size are not the same number.
- Is the Roblox Player download link the same every version?
- No, and this is the opposite of Roblox Studio. Every Player version is published at its own address containing an opaque token, so a link you were given points at one frozen build rather than at the latest one.
- Do I need Roblox Player if I have Roblox Studio?
